SeaX Ventures adds healthcare veteran as venture partner in biotech push
Southeast Asia- and US-focused venture capital firm SeaX Ventures has appointed healthcare design pioneer Stacey Chang as a venture partner, strengthening its healthcare and biotechnology investment capabilities as specialist investors seek opportunities in one of the fastest-growing areas of private capital.
Chang, a former global healthcare lead at IDEO and the founding executive director of the Design Institute for Health at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, will advise the firm on healthcare and biotech investments while supporting portfolio companies operating across the United States and Southeast Asia.
Financial terms of the appointment were not disclosed.
The move comes as venture investors increasingly recruit industry specialists and operating executives to help portfolio companies navigate complex sectors such as healthcare, artificial intelligence and life sciences, where commercial execution can be as important as technological breakthroughs.
SeaX Ventures invests in deep technology sectors including AI, healthcare, biotechnology, food technology, robotics, quantum computing and sustainability. The firm said Chang’s appointment reinforces its strategy of backing companies that combine frontier science with practical applications for healthcare systems and patients.
“Stacey is one of the most respected design thinkers in global healthcare, and the way he reasons about health systems is exactly what founders need as they move from breakthrough science to real-world impact,” said Dr. Kid Parchariyanon, founder and managing partner of SeaX Ventures.
Chang said Southeast Asia’s healthcare ecosystem offers significant opportunities for innovation, citing a combination of growing demand, regulatory developments and scientific capabilities.
The appointment also underscores SeaX’s investment thesis that healthcare innovation will increasingly emerge from collaboration between the United States and Southeast Asia, with venture capital firms helping connect technology, talent and commercial partners across the two markets.
The firm has backed companies in areas including AI-driven healthcare research and diagnostics and has sought to leverage its network of Southeast Asian corporations and family-owned businesses to help portfolio companies scale.
For private investors, the expansion of SeaX’s healthcare investment bench reflects broader interest in sectors such as biotechnology, medical technology and AI-enabled healthcare, which continue to attract long-term capital despite a more selective venture funding environment.
As competition for quality healthcare assets intensifies, specialist expertise is becoming an increasingly important differentiator for venture firms looking to identify investment opportunities and create value beyond providing capital.
